Tips for planning your cocktail hour bar menu!

Cocktail hour is one of my favourite parts of a wedding. Your guests are giddy with excitement after the ceremony, all your closest pals are together and it’s time to celebrate with fancy drinks!

1. When choosing your signature cocktails be sure to have some fun by bringing in your wedding style or theme. This may be as subtle as a champagne cocktail for an elegant and chic garden wedding or a boozy ice-cream float for a beach inspired wedding.
2. Limit the different types of drinks being served. This will keep drinks flowing and will often entice your guests to try something they may not have tried before. Two signature cocktails, a local brew and either a bubbly, rose or white wine works perfectly in the Summer months. Once the reception is over and your guests hit the dance floor then open up the bar with their go-to mixed drinks.

3. Don’t forget about your guests that don’t drink alcohol. If you have a lot of non-drinkers and kids why not try a raw juice bar, either with juices made locally, we love Alchemy Juice Lab or set up a juicing station, this will take a little man-power but if you are outdoors with lots of space it could be loads of fun.
4 . Use a local calligrapher or stationery gal, we love Dandelion Willows to create a custom bar menu for you. Detail a full list of the beverages you’re offering and highlight your signature cocktails, making sure to include the ingredients. This will save guests from asking for something that’s not available and keep the bar line-ups moving!
5. Most guests will likely have 2 drinks during the cocktail hour, try not to knock their socks off with super strong cocktails before the reception. If a recipe asks for 2 ounces of liquor ask your bartender to cut it back to one ounce or get creative by offering a low alcohol cocktail like a sparkling tarragon gin lemonade, for this recipe and other delicious cocktail ideas that will allow you to drink all day long read here.
